I’m Maria and I live in California. I’ve lived an unconventional life. In my early 20’s I joined the California Army National Guard and fulfilled a life long dream of visiting Europe for three weeks while training. I loved my experience so much that I enlisted in the active duty Army and requested to be stationed in Germany. I lived in Germany for six years. Three years in the Army, one of those years was in Afghanistan and three years as a civilian living in Germany.
When I left the Army, I spent a lot of time figuring out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I worked in the Mortgage Industry and earned my M.B.A from the University of Redlands. I am grateful for the time spent helping people fulfill their life long dream of owning a home.
During the time spent discovering what I wanted to do with my life, I fell in love with gardening. I spent six months as an intern at the Orange County Great Park. I’ve been able to apply the knowledge I’ve learned in my home garden, it’s a constant learning process, no two pieces of ground are the same.
I learned to love cooking because I love the taste of homemade food. I learned to sew for practical reasons but now I love to try new projects.
I feel gratified in being self-sufficient and I love saving money doing something for myself and doing it better. This blog will be centered around my homesteading adventures which include cooking, sewing, gardening, home economics, raising children and chickens.
